Membrane Waterproofing

Membrane Waterproofing

Waterproofing involves all the techniques that prevent water to enter the structural elements. The moisture in liquid state exerts hydrostatic pressure which results in water entering the structure. The main task of a waterproofing system is to prevent water intrusion.

The waterproofing membrane makes up of waterproof plastic, rubber or coated-fabric materials. The waterproofing membrane restricts the water ingress to the foundations, roofs, walls, basements etc. The waterproofing could be negative, applicable to interiors, as is the case with the repairs, or to the exteriors, which is positive.

In case of membrane waterproofing, a watertight layer is formed over the material thus preventing the water inflow. A watertight membrane can be formed of cementitious material, bituminous material, liquid polymeric waterproofing membrane and polyurethane liquid membrane etc or ready made membranes like APP, PVC, EPDM, TPU or HDPE membranes.

In the case of liquid waterproofing membrane, liquid is prayed over the structure to be protected, which on coming in contact with air forms a membrane that prevents the water ingress. The properties of liquid waterproofing are

  • Chemical resistant
  • Durability
  • Abrasion
  • Flexibility

The waterproofing liquid membrane advantages

  • Easy installation
  • Excellent performance in all weather conditions
  • Durable
  • Impermeable to water
  • Economical
